FUTURE DRONE SYSTEMS, an organization of which Furukawa Sangyo is a secretary, and Tosetsu Civil Engineering Consultant Inc. have succeeded in development of a portable penetration test equipment that can be transported by a drone. Materials transportation in mountainous area is generally carried out by monorails, helicopters, or crawlers, and this is the first initiative to transport the portable penetration test equipment by the drone.

Assuming transportation with drone, by making the body light and shortening the maximum length, the transportation cost could be greatly reduced. Temporary monorails and helicopters are expensive to laying preparation and transportation, and the crawler transportation has space restrictions and inclination angle restrictions as it is necessary to pass through the beast road. And these are the issues for the conventional methods.

Drones are less expensive in comparison with monorails and helicopters, and have no spacial and no inclination angle restrictions. The portable penetration test equipment has an overall weight of 300kg and the maximum disassembled weight is 40 kg.
The drone, with the maximum load capability of 40 kg is used for transportation and FUTURE DRONE SYSTEMS is developing the body and operating. The 44 kg of materials was successfully transported to a point 650 m away. Meeting with the increasing future demand for renewable energy power generation (wind power, solar power) in mountainous areas, we anticipate expanding its use as one of the methods to complete costly geotechnical surveys at low cost.
