Environmental Initiatives

ISO 14001

The Company acquired ISO 14001 certification (6 sites) in May 2004, and completed the acquisition at all domestic bases in March 2008.

Now, the global environmental conservation efforts are necessary, as a trading company, we endeavor to provide products that do not contain environmentally hazardous substances and to propose environmentally friendly products in order to avoid the expected future environmental risks in the environmental society.

Basic Principle

All members of Furukawa Sangyo recognize that protecting the global environment is the most pressing challenge facing international society. We will contribute to a sustainable future for the planet as a trading company that promotes environmental safety.

Courses of Action

  • We will work hard to make ongoing improvements in conservation of the global environment by observing environmental laws and regulations, by meeting other requirements, including those of our customers, and by achieving our environmental goals.
  • We will work hard to supply products (environmentally friendly products) and services that are friendly to the global environment.
  • At all stages of our corporate activities, we will work to reduce environmental risk, including by implementing measures to tackle climate change, promoting resource conservation and recycling, and reducing environmentally hazardous substances.
  • We will give consideration to the impact of all of our business activities on the ecosystem, and strive to conserve biodiversity and use sustainable resources.・We will work to promote symbiosis with nature and local communities by holding dialog with stakeholders.

    ISO 14001 certification acquisition

    Considering the effectiveness of ISO 14001, the Company has been working to acquire the certification as an environmental initiative.

    In May 2004, the Head Office, Kansai Branch and Chubu Branch, Kita-Kanto Sub Branch and Chu-shikoku Sub Branch, also Gunma Sub Branch, acquired the certificate in total of 6 sites. Followed by the certificate acquisition in December 2007 at each Sub Branch in Hokkaido, Tohoku and Kyusyu. In March 2008, the certificate acquisition has completed at all the domestic sites.

    Sale of environmentally friendly products

    Recognizing that “21 century is the century of  the environment”, while coordinating with customers, we are working on the sales of Environmentally Friendly Products that lead to the business development of the Company and the social contribution for the environment.

    Green Procurement

    Green procurement is promoted for general-purpose products such as office supplies.

    Keeping in mind the procurement of due consideration of necessity, preferential procurements are being made for products that have the least impact on the environment.

    Eco-office activity

    Recognizing the conduction of business activities utilizing the limited resources, each employee is working on “energy saving / resource saving”, and “waste reduction” in daily activities.

    Environmental activities in the affiliates

    As a member of Furukawa Electric Group, the Company promotes the environmental conservation activities and contributes to the environmental risk reduction and to the society, and strives for the improvement of the social evaluation.

    Biodiversity Initiatives

    Biodiversity conservation activities has been carried out in collaboration with the local community, as part of the biodiversity initiatives.

    The Company strives to conserve the biodiversity and to use the sustainable resources, in consideration of the impact of all business activities on the ecosystem.

    Policy and Aims of Activities

    1. Promote climate change countermeasures, resource savings and recycling for the sustainable resource use and the biodiversity conservation.
    2. Implement the biodiversity conservation activities in collaboration with local communities.

    Outline of Activities

    The Company is carrying out activities related to the biodiversity conservation by incorporating our efforts for the biodiversity conservation into our environmental policy.

    The Company has been implementing efforts to reduce the environmental load through the environmental management system, and from FY 2019, as a new initiative to contribute to the local community, the Satoyama (An undeveloped woodland area near a village) conservation activity has been implemented in Ichihara City, Chiba prefecture.

As an initiative for the quality of a trading company, the certificate acquisition status is displayed.

In March 2021, Automotive Systems Sec. (currently Automotive Business Div.) acquired ISO 9001 certification. After that, FSNA acquired it in March 2017.

Promotion of female activity

“Nurture human resources at every level, so that we can become a more diverse and creative organization” is a management philosophy of Furukawa Electric Group. And we believe that creating an environment and culture in which diverse human resources can play an active role is indispensable for promoting global management.

The Company implements the following measures to create the environment where employees can play active roles.

In order to enable balance between a family and an employment, the Company implements measures to create a flexible working environment.

Core time reduction in flextime

By reducing the core time from 10:00 to 15:00 to 11:00 to 14:00, the working style that considers individual circumstances is available, while maintaining a better balance with the home.

Promotion of paid holidays

By giving a name to each purpose, create a culture to take paid holidays easily and to increase the rate of taking paid holidays. (Daddy’s maternity leave, anniversary leave, etc. )

Introduction of the telework system

Create an environment to work while maintaining balance between work and home.

Aims to introduce a new personnel system

Create an environment to form a career suitable for each individual.

Training according to each job level

Create an environment where all employees are able to take training according to their careers, and to expand the possibilities to demonstrate their abilities.

Aims to implement employee training in accordance with the education system diagram.
